IP TELEPHONY

SEMINAR ON IP TELEPHONY : telephony, or Voice over Internet Protocol is a method for taking analog audio signals, like the kind you hear when talking on the phone, and convert them into digital data that can be transmitted over the Internet.
How is this useful? Internet telephony can transform a standard Internet connection into a way to place free phone calls. The practical result is that, by using part of the telephony software free on the Internet that is available to make calls with VoIP, you hang the phone company (and its charges) entirely.
Internet telephony is a revolutionary technology that has the ability to completely customize the phone systems in the world. Internet phone providers like Vonage have already been around for a while 'and are still growing. major carriers, including AT & T have already established an Internet phone calls with plans for a variety of markets in the U.S., and the FCC to seriously consider the possible ramifications of Internet Telephony.
Above all, the Internet telephony is basically a clever "reinvention of the wheel." In this article we will examine the principles behind VoIP, its applications and potential of this new technology that will more than likely one day replace the traditional phone system entirely.
The interesting thing about the Internet telephony is that there is only one way to make a call.
There are three different phone "flavors" of Internet service in common use today:
ATA - The simplest and most common is to use a device called an ATA (analog telephone adapter). ATA connects a standard telephone to connect to the computer or the Internet with the use of Internet telephony.
The ATA is an analog to digital. It takes the analog signal from your traditional phone and converts them into digital data for transmission over the Internet. Providers like Vonage and AT & T CallVantage are grouping ATA free with their service. Simply break the ATA box, connect the phone cable that would normally be on the wall in the ATA, and you're ready to make phone calls over the Internet. Some ATA can be supplied with additional software that is loaded on the host computer to configure, but in any case, it is a very simple configuration.
IP Phones - These specialized phones resembling normal phones with a handset, cradle and buttons. But instead of the standard RJ-11 phone, IP phones have an RJ-45 Ethernet connector. IP phones connect directly to the router and have all the hardware and software necessary right onboard to handle the IP call. Wi-Fi phones allow subscribing callers to phone calls over the Internet from any WiFi access point
From computer to computer - This is certainly the easiest way to use Internet telephony. They do not even need to pay for long distance calls. There are several companies that offer free or very low-cost software that you can use this type of internet telephony. All you need is software, a microphone, speakers, sound card and an Internet connection, preferably a fast one like you should get a cable modem or DSL. Unless the normal monthly ISP fee, is usually free calls from computer to computer, regardless of the trip.If you are interested in trying VoIP, then you should see some free software for Internet telephony over the Internet. You should be able to download and execute in three to five minutes. Ask a friend to download the software, too, and you can begin to tinker with the Internet phone service to get an idea of how it works.
