GENERAL PACKET RADIO SERVICE

SEMINAR ON GENERAL PACKET RADIO SERVICE : Today's mobile professionals need to stay in touch with important sources of information, such as Internet e-mail, business, business remote networks and databases. As the demand for Wide Area Network (WAN) continues to grow, users and organizations are looking ways to make more efficient and productive. One of the most promising technologies for this purpose is the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). GPRS is a network data packet, which is on top of existing cellular telephone network using the same radio frequencies and cell phone towers. When Combined with the force of the global system for mobile communications (GSM) GPRS offers voice and data solution with significant advantages about alternatives. GPRS offers flexibility and throughput of packet switching. GPRS
uses packet switching to transfer data from mobile devices to the network and vice versa. It is a device for packet-switched network can always be turned on and ready to send data without tying up the channel. Channels divided into packet switched network, but changes with each channel is dedicated to one user. There is no dial up or stopping time. The overlapping of GSM, GPRS is able to enjoy world leader in digital phone system with a global subscriber base of over
646.5 million.Theoretical up to 171.2 kilobits per second (Kbps) are achievable with GPRS. It is about three times faster than data the possible transmission of fixed telecommunications networks, today's rates and ten times faster than the circuit switched data for GSM networks.
